Where I was a year ago...

Snapshot July 2010

I saw it coming and was powerless to stop it.
A hundred car locomotive loose on the track
and nobody at the stick.
I watched it.
Studied it.
Hid from it,
and wasn't prepared for it.
That train came and went by.
And in its wake, a devastation that was
complete in its simplicity.

Experienced in the throes of Winter,
hail Summer now,
with its vestiges of warmth, light and abundance.
Doing the dance of the sun while I pick up the
pieces of my shattered existence.
That golden orb a master manipulator,
disguising itself as a precursor to glad tidings
and selfless acts of random kindness.

Yet have I, to reenter the fray of acceptance and
consider my own mortal being.
Choosing instead the depth of the stars where I rail
against God and demand to know why this death had to be.
It's just a snapshot.
A moment in time to spend in retrospect.

Collecting myself amongst the dust and ashes
of memories long past.
Considering the luck and privilege to have been
involved in that particular place, in that particular
time, with those particular people.

Sharing a life lived, from one realm to the next.
And hoping, hoping, that we never lose the
connection of what we are and where we come from.
